Position: Temporary Full Time

The Entry Level Fibre Splicing Technician will play a vital role in ensuring quality and timely deliveries of fibre services to our customers, while delivering exceptional internal and external customer service. Work is normally performed in outdoor settings in residential and commercial areas, construction sites, and field facilities. Performance of the position requires working safely and may require working outdoors in all weather conditions, day or night.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Fibre optic cable & service wire stripping, cleaving and splicing.
  • Fusion Splicing with a variety of Fusion Sets.
  • Proper Access, Installation & Testing of pressurized and non-pressurized FOSC closures of various types and sizes.
  • Cable Vault Racking Techniques.
  • Responsible for verification of completed work using a light meter and VFL.
  • Documenting and reporting on completed work.
  • Responsible for all tools and equipment.
  • Must be prepared to work during day or night shifts, as well as weekends and participate in on-call duties.
  • Perform daily maintenance review of vehicles to ensure they are in proper working order.
  • Perform daily maintenance of tools to ensure they are in proper working order.
  • Must be able to tow a splicer trailer and navigate into tight & congested areas safely.
  • Must maintain a clean & tidy work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned within the splicing & construction departments.


  • Excellent oral communications and listening skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas, concerns, job tasks with co-workers and management.
  • Accurate and legible written communication.
  • Professional phone etiquette with co-workers.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Valid Driver’s license and Clean driving abstract.
  • Full work day attendance and punctuality is required.

  • Applicant should be self-motivated and able to accept instruction.
  • Must be able to work at heights, ladders, and work from a bucket truck, as well as work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to read and understand maps, documents, enclosure forms, drawings, and diagrams.
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Must be able to see and distinguish different colours and read fine print.
  • Computer literacy & Proficiency in the use of MS Office software.
  • Must be receptive to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Strong technical and analytical aptitude.
  • Able to identify and make corrections to service problems.
  • Able to plan, multi task and think quickly.


  • Secondary education.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s license & Clean driving abstract.
  • Physically capable to lift and carry 75 pounds.
